Terms of use
Last updated: 21 July 2026 · Effective: 21 July 2026 · What changed
This is a research lab's website. It has no accounts, no logins, no payments and nothing to upload. So these terms are short, and they only cover what actually happens here: you read our work, you may join a waitlist, you may download a published dataset, and you may email us. Anything bigger — a paid diagnostic engagement — runs on its own signed agreement, not on this page.
Who we are
This site is operated by 8Hats Lab Inc., a Delaware corporation (United States). The lab works out of Singapore and Silicon Valley.

What these terms cover
By using 8hats.ai you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, don't use the site. That's the whole mechanism — there is no account to create and no box to tick.
These terms cover browsing this site, reading our notes and research, joining the waitlist, and using the datasets and papers we publish. Our privacy policy is part of them and explains what we collect.
They do not cover Agents University, which is a separate property. If you have a question about that site, ask us and we'll answer directly.
Diagnostic engagements are separate
A diagnostic engagement is governed only by the written agreement signed for that engagement. If anything on this page conflicts with that agreement, the agreement wins. Nothing on this site — no page, no price, no description of the diagnostic — is an offer, a quote, or a commitment to do work for you. Work starts when a contract is signed, not when a page is read.
What this site is, and what it isn't
What you find here is research: notes, benchmarks, a glossary, datasets, and eventually a self-check. It's published so people can read it, argue with it, and use it.
It is not professional advice — not legal, compliance, security, financial, or engineering advice. A self-check result is not a certification, an audit, an accreditation or an assurance of anything, and it doesn't mean we've reviewed your systems. Our findings describe what we saw at a point in time; they can be incomplete, they can be wrong, and we revise them. Please don't make a consequential decision on our work alone. If you need an assessment of your own systems, that's what the diagnostic is for, and it comes with a contract.
The waitlist
Joining the waitlist means we'll email you when the self-check ships, and occasionally about the research behind it. That's it. It isn't a purchase, a reservation, a place in a queue, or a promise of pricing, access or timing. We may change the self-check, delay it, or decide not to ship it at all. You can leave at any time — one click in any email we send, or write to hello@8hats.ai.
Our site content
The writing, design, name, logo and marks on this site belong to 8Hats Lab Inc.
You're welcome to quote us and link to us — that's why we publish. Quote a reasonable extract, say it's ours, and link to the source. What we ask you not to do: republish a whole piece as your own, translate or repackage our material without attribution, or present our work in a way that suggests we endorsed, certified or reviewed you.
Published datasets and papers
Our datasets and papers are released through Zenodo, and each record carries its own licence. That licence governs that dataset — this page doesn't override it, narrow it, or add conditions to it. Before you reuse a dataset, read its record.
Please cite the record you used, including its version, since datasets get revised and superseded. And note the obvious: research data is provided for research. We don't warrant that a dataset is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose, and findings drawn from it are ours at a point in time, not a permanent claim about the world.
Fair use of the site
Read as much as you like. A few things we ask you not to do:
- Bulk scraping, crawling against our
robots.txt, or automated harvesting of the site. - Probing, overloading, or interfering with the site or its infrastructure.
- Claiming to be us, to speak for us, or to be affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by 8Hats Lab.
If traffic is causing us problems we may block it. That's the only enforcement mechanism a site without accounts has.
Things you send us
Every contact point here is an email link, and we like getting mail. But be aware of two things. Email to a public address isn't confidential, and we can't treat it as such unless we've signed something that says otherwise. And if you send us ideas, feedback, critiques or suggestions about our methodology, we may use them freely — without payment, credit or obligation. We're not trying to take anything from you; we just can't run a research programme where an emailed suggestion later becomes a claim on our work. If you want to share something in confidence, say so first and we'll sort out the right paperwork.
Links to other places
We link out — to Zenodo, to Google's policies, to Agents University, to other people's research. Those sites are run by other people, under their own terms and privacy policies. We don't control them and we're not responsible for them.
No warranties
The site and everything on it is provided as is and as available. We don't warrant that it will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or error-free, and we make no implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, to the extent the law lets us disclaim them. Some places don't allow those exclusions, in which case they don't apply to you. We may change, move or take down any part of the site at any time.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business, arising from your use of this site or our published research. Our total liability for anything connected with this site is capped at US$100.
That number is low because this site is free — nobody pays us anything to read it. It applies to the website only. A diagnostic engagement has its own liability terms in its own agreement, and this cap has nothing to do with it. Nothing here limits liability that can't lawfully be limited, such as for fraud.
Indemnity
Kept deliberately narrow. If you break the fair-use section above — scraping us, disrupting the site, or claiming an affiliation or endorsement that doesn't exist — and that causes a third party to bring a claim against us, you cover the reasonable cost of it. We haven't written a broader indemnity because there's nothing broader to protect against: you don't have an account, you can't upload anything, and you don't pay us.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts sitting in Delaware, and we both agree to that venue. Any claim about this site must be brought within one year of when it arose.
Delaware because 8Hats Lab Inc. is a Delaware corporation — the contracting party is the US entity, wherever the team happens to sit. If you're outside the US, mandatory consumer protections where you live still apply to you and this clause doesn't take them away.
The usual small print
If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given it up. We may transfer these terms as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the business; you can't transfer them. Together with the privacy policy, this page is the whole agreement about your use of this site — and it doesn't touch any separate agreement we've signed with you.
When this changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top and note what changed here, the same way we do on the privacy page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept it. If a change is significant and you're on the waitlist, we'll email you.
21 July 2026. First version. Until now this site had no terms of use at all, while another of our sites linked to a terms page that didn't exist. This fixes that.
Contact
Questions about these terms, or anything else: hello@8hats.ai. A real person answers.
If you believe something on this site infringes your rights, email the same address and tell us what and where. We'd rather just fix it than run a process. We don't host anyone else's uploads, so there's no takedown queue to join — it's just us reading your mail.
